The first printing of this newly revised edition. Small 4to. 142pp + four colour maps. Red cloth lettered and blocked in green at the spine. With a colour frontispiece and over 100 monochrome photographs (including nearly forty contributed by John Piper). The cloth somewhat marked, dusty and occasionally chafed. Binding cracked and a little tender at the title page. A good bright copy, no dust wrapper. The revision of the Cornwall Shell Guide was somewhat reluctantly taken on by Betjeman after refusals from Geoffrey Grigson and S.P.B.Mais and two unsatisfactory drafts submitted by local journalist H.J.Wilmott (the last of these described by John Piper as "dull, wordy and commonplace")..
