Smithies" of Middle Brig How, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside in Westmorland, England. Singleton gives words of encouragement to Smithies about her manuscripts. The letter reads, in part, "What a jolly nice kind generous heart-warming letter. We shall certainly miss no opportunity of calling on you. ... I hope you both flourish and that your manuscripts are never like homing pigeons but go out from Skelwith Bridge so bravely beating their white wings that it is almost sad to think they will not return, and comfort is only to be found in the cheques with which the postman's bag is heavy as he staggers up to Middle Brig How.".
