Original stereocard with two black-and-white stereoscopic photographs tipped in on light beige board. Issued by a pirate stereoview company of the c. 1880s-1890s. The photos shows an uncanny-looking alligator lying on brush in a Floridian marsh or swamp. Much of the photo constitutes the alligator on the brush, but a body of water and the reflection of trees on the horizon are visible in the background. The context of the photo is unclear, but the composition has a staged and surreal quality to it. No date, circa 1880s-1890s. 7" x 3 1/2." Stereocard is clean and intact overall except for a few stains on the photos (mostly in upper-left corner of right photo), light dampstaining and slight darkening on board, light surface wear, several faint smudges, and slight wear to edges and corners.
