Robert Burns was a prominent Scottish poet in the late 1700s, known as Scotland's Bard. His poems were written both in Scots and standard English, the latter of which often highlighted his political views most strongly. Incidentally, he was voted by the Scottish public as the Greatest Scot in 2009 through a national contest. He was made a Depute Master of his local masonic lodge in 1784, and was very closely involved in the affairs of Freemasonry in Scotland.
