Dimensions 10 x 6 1/2 inches. Black ink, vignette of steam locomotive running through the prairie with a group of Native Americans watching, with decorative border. "Shares $100 Each" printed along right border. No. 44, originally issued to A. Lee Merriman on June 26, 1855. Signed by the President, "M. R. Judd". Side edges darkened, fold lines. "Canceled" written in red ink across front, six punch holes. Mr. Merriman transferred the certificate to a brokerage firm on July 13, 1855. The Peoria & Bureau Valley Railroad Company built a short line (approx. 47 miles) from Peoria, Illinois, to Bureau Valley, Illinois, which opened in 1854. It was then turned over to the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad Company to operate.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
