Strashun (1819-1885) was the founder of the Strashun Library in Vilna. Independently wealthy, he began to study at a young age, became a well-regarded Talmud scholar, and learned several languages. He was a civic leader in Vilna, and a member of the Russian Imperial Bank there. For many of his publications, he wrote under pseudonyms.
