In 1892, he founded a literary magazine called the Sewanee Review, which is still published to this day. Excerpt from the ad: "At the University of Illinois, on Class Day, 1907, a bust of the poet Longfellow was unveiled with appropriate ceremonies, and an address was delivered by Professor Trent of Columbia University. The address written for that occasion forms the opening essay in this most recent collection of the well-known critic's literary productions. The other essays comprise in the main papers written since that time. Ten essays in all are included in the volume, and such has been the keenness of the author's discrimination in choosing his material that two hundred and forty-odd pages of exceptionally brilliant treatment of literary topics are found between its covers.".
