Some of the illustratio ns were done by Agnes Sims because WWII restrictions prevented the arrival of the original Shepard illustrations. The illustrator, Mary Shepard, was the daughter of E.H. Shepard who did the illustrations for the Winnie the Pooh books and Wind in the Willows amongst others. 'Travers chose Mary Shepard as the illustrator for her Mary Poppins books when she saw a hand-drawn Christmas card Mary had done.
