Richard Chevenix Trench's great grandson Anthony Chevenix Trench became known as 'The Beater of Eton' (his predilection for his sensuous touching of buttocks and then caning eventually led to his removal). Richard Chevenix Trench's memory arouses no such anxiety. Chevenix Trench was known as a genial and kindly man. In later life he became Dean of Westminster Abbey and was then elevated to the Archbishopric of Dublin (his hometown). He wrote many book of which this is one of his earliest. Full leather. Repaired about the spine. Taking the books age into account this book is in fair to good condition. The book has much character. It is still a handsome book. The covers have wear about the shelving edges and to the corners. The spine, despite the cracking, is flexible, youthful and secure. The papertrims and front and end pages are marbled. The binding along the inside front cover has been repaired. The title page has a previous owner signature. There are freckles of foxing throughout.
