[The upper board in relation to book's signatures is inverted and blank,the rear board should be the upper,front board and is also inverted.] The blank,upper board has several small circular indents towards it's bottom right-hand corner.Boards with negligible shelf-wear to edges,miniscule bumping with reciprocal creasing to corners - both head+foot of spine/ backstrip unaffected - blue +white cartoon illustrated endpapers; bottom right-hand corner of front fep has a diagonal crease to the corner.Top+fore-edges bright and clean; contents bright,tight and near pristine.UK,slim Qrto HB,glazed boards as issued,illustrated,1st edn thus,3-48pp [paginated] includes title page,colour map of Gaul,verso of which has colour cartoon characters,colour strip-cartoon story with English text.Translated by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge.Written and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. A Roman actress poses as Panacea in order to steal back a fancy sword/scabbard and helmet belonging to Pompey,which Asterix and Obelix received for their shared birthday. Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo were a French writer/artist team.Born 1925 and 1927 respectively,the two men have - together or separately - worked on many comic strips,but are best known for their series of books featuring the 'indomitable Gaul' Asterix.He made his first appearance in the French magazine,'Pilote',in 1959, and has since featured in well over two dozen books.Goscinny also created the characters Lucky Luke,Ompa-pa,Iznogoud and Nicholas,albeit in collaboration with other artists.He died in 1977.After the death of Goscinny,Uderzo continued the series by himself (1980-2005), writing 8 of his own stories on subjects such as feminism and aliens,with travels to India and Atlantis. UDERZO died 24.03/20 aged 92.
