Wallace (1823-1913) was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologists and biologist. He is best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution through natural selection. This was Wallace's last book. On the inside front cover is a black and white nameplate which has the name "Jessie Dowd Stafford". On the following page, written in black ink is, "The Itinerary-Judge D. H. Commager to John W. Dowd thence to Jessie Dowd Stafford and finally to George K. Dowd, Jan 1915".
