Abstract: "The main aim of this study is to illustrate family diversity both in terms of the structure of households and family values. Furthermore, the dynamic aspect of family life is expressed by means of symbolic representations of individuals' life cycles. The study consists of a survey and also case studies. Attention was focused on two variables (class and culture) in order to explain family diversity. The findings of the investigation indicate that whereas only class can be related to differences in household structure, both class and culture can be related to differences in family values. An important finding concerning future policy is that nuclear families were found to be less prevalent in the lower than the upper echelons of the community involved in the study."
