Rupert Brooke is perhaps the only figure of the early 20th century who has so far remained without a full-length biography. The short memoir by Edward Marsh introducing the first collected edition of poems has long been acknowledged as little more than a preliminary sketch. It was natural that Christopher Hassall should turn his attention to Marsh's friend as a sequel to his Life of Edward Marsh.
