Saba, Marcel (edited by)
Witness Iraq - A War Journal February - April 2003

Imprint: New York, PowerHouse, 2003
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback

Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy. The book documents the U.S.-led military campaign from the perspective of some of the world’s most renowned and respected photojournalists who possessed extraordinary first-hand access to this unprecedented display of military precision, planning, and containment. Captured in Witness Iraq are the trials and tribulations of the coalition forces and the Iraqi people as the universally recognized terror of Saddam Hussein’s regime is brought to an end by U.S.-led coalition forces. Showcasing dramatic and compelling scenes of the three-week war, the book begins with the missile launch on Iraqi leadership targets and continues through the massive roll-out of tanks and troops in the desert, and from the fight of the Kurds in the North to the anticlimactic, but no less dramatic, fall of Baghdad. A Guide to Reading and Writing Japanese - Revised Edition

Imprint: Vermont, Charles E. Tuttle, 1977
Binding: Softback

12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Card covers are unmarked with a touch of wear to lower front. Internally there is a little light foxing to fore edge else a clean, tight and unmarked copy. 312 pages. 32nd printing revised (first was 1959). The book is designed first of all to make the study of written Japanese a much less formidable task for the foreign student than it has traditionally been. Its second major purpose is to enable the student to achieve fluency in reading and writing the language in its everyday style. Essentially, the book reflects the language simplification movement now under way in Japan. It presents first the 881 essential characters prescribed by the Ministry of Education as the minimum requirement for the six years of Japanese elementary school. Each character is accompanied by a chart demonstrating the proper way to write it. The second major section presents the 1,850 characters (including the 881 essential characters) adopted by law for general use in publications. These characters are given with their readings and definitions. A chart for the writing of the two Kana syllabaries is also included. A full index of characters reading both on and kun, appears at the endof the book. Formerly the ability to read Japanese newspapers and magazines required the knowledge of no fewer than 4,000 characters. 51. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft Cover. Jacket: No Jacket

Empires of the Sky - The Politics, Contests and Cartels of World Airlines

Imprint: London, Hodder and Stoughton, 1984
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with VG+ price clipped dustjacket. In this book the author penetrates behind the images of the global airlines - British Airways, Pan Am, JAL - to show who really runs them, and how they have both opened up our world and circumscribed it. He shows how the European airlines first grew up in the 1920's, dependent on national ambitions, and how the wartime hopes of 'freedom of the air' were soon forgotten with the revival of European nationalism; while the thrusting American airlines raced across the world under their autocrats Juan Trippe and Howard Hughes. He also covers the development of other countries' airlines and the conflicts and cut-throat tactics of the cartels. **** NOT EX LIB **** 3. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: Hard Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A clean, tight copy which has a small name to front endpaper and a stain to lower closed edge. x + 162 pages. 'Catholics do: Protestants don't'. John de Satgé seeks to replace this stereotype of thinking about the Virgin Mary by a fresh approach from the Protestant side. He develops his argument in three stages, starting with 'Mary and her Son', which reviews the biblical evidence and establishes a basic Christology. Dr. E.L. Mascall writes 'It represents a very thorough rethinking of the whole topic of Mariology from a definitely evangelical theological standpoint and is extremely penetrating and original.' **** NOT AN EX LIBRARY COPY **** R8. Betty was liberated from the camp, half dead from typhoid fever, and her first priority was to find her beloved Richie, spending many months looking for him in the post-war meltdown, eventually, after much grieving and soul searching she gave him up for dead and married Otto, a fellow death camp survivor. Nearly three decades later, when she visited Budapest for the first time since the war, she encountered Richie again, who told her that he had never stopped loving her and had waited 15 years in the hope of finding her before marrying.
