Vietnam War Diary

Imprint: London, Hamlyn, 1990
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. A Very Good+ unmarked copy which has shelf rubbing to lower edge with VG+ dustjacket which is not price clipped. A large format volume of 256 pages. Over 100 colour and 220 black and white photographs. Told in the words of those who fought the war and those who reported on it, the book provides a startling, inside look at the war. The longest conflict in American history, the Vietnam War arouses more controversy than almost any other experience - a complicated range of emotions that are still strongly felt today. To the people of Southeast Asia, it is a continuing tragedy, for their country has endured years of foreign occupation, and suffered irreparable damage. The book takes the form of a month-by-month diary of the US forces' war in Southeast Asia. Hundreds of news stories, personal accounts and extracts from official reports are accompanied by photos that cover the range of experience in Vietnam. Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

Dustjacket is near Fine and unmarked with just light fading to spine and protected by a plastic cover and is not price clipped. Veronica Black is the pseudonym of Maureen Peters (1935-2008). The Great Race - The Amazing Round -the -World Auto Race of 1908

Imprint: New York, Harry N. Abrams, 2008
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy in pictorial laminated boards with Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. Gathering the research materials was a painstaking process spread over a ten year period. The idea of making a trip around the world was an extraordinary one in 1908, when six automobiles from four countries set out to be the first car to travel from New York to Paris. The race was headline news for months, and readers eagerly followed the progress. The competitors were an eccentric bunch and included an ambitious German army officer who was good at everything but driving, a young Italian poet, a Norwegian explorer who claimed to have sailed a Viking ship across the Atlantic, a roguish Frenchman who left debts everywhere he went, and a quiet American car expert who rarely smiled but could keep a cranky machine running when no one else could. The roads were terrible and the shelters flea-ridden, and the food on the journey was often whatever the contestants could shoot, but everywhere they were greeted by cheering crowds, many of which had never seen a car before. Blakiston, Georgiana
Woburn and The Russells

Imprint: London, Constable, 1980
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with VG dustjacket which is not price clipped. x + 246 pages, 39 illustrations. Genealogical tree endpapers. Jeremiah Wiffen, librarian to the sixth Duke of Bedford, traced the lineage of the family to Olaf the Sharp-Eyed, King of Rerik in the seventh century. Later, Wiffen was thought to have been too ingenious; the first ancestor of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford proven by documentary evidence was Stephen Russell, who lived at the end of the 14th century, and through marriage came into the property of Berwick by Swire in Dorset. This was the home from which John Russell, a century later, set out on his varied and triumphant career in the service of the crown, receiving an Earldom in 1550. Since that time the Rusell family have sustained a remarkable ascendancy, usually adding to their property with each generation, or producing men as brilliant and distinguished as Lord John Russell, the Prime Minister, in the 19th century and Bertrand Russell in the 20th century. The author, herself a Russell by birth, evokes the history of the great house and breathes life into its past inhabitants. 13. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: Hard Cover. Jacket: Very Good

A God Who Acts - Recognizing the Hand of God in Suffering and Failure

Imprint: London, SPCK, 1983
Edition: First Thus
Binding: Softback

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy. 128 pages. First published in 1957 as 'The Will and the Way', this is a revised edition with a new introduction. The book revolves around the Christian's most heartfelt questions of all. You cannot observe unmerited human suffering without asking, What is God doing ? You cannot pray hard for things which seem unlikely to come to pass without wondering if you are wasting your time. The book follows with tenacity a train of thought about God's way of dealing with his children which is basic and elemental to the business of forcing experience and faith into some sort of logical relationship. **** NOT AN EX LIBRARY COPY **** R7. Men Dancing - Performers and Performances

Imprint: London, Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1984
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. A near Fine unmarked copy with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. A very large format volume of 176 pages. Profusely illustrated. This book celebrates one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the arts. The most striking post-war development in the world of the arts has been the emergence of dance as a popular art form; and the most striking development in the world of dance has been the re-emergence of the male dancer. The two phenomena are not unconnected. Originating as an activity for men, dance has been dominated for over a century by women. Though admired and envied, these remote ethereal creatures were too far from ordinary life to become the subjects of general interest; they were the precious idols of a select few. The picture now is radically different. The book analyses the role of man in dance. It sketches the historical background and examines, for the first time, the different qualities, both physiological and psychlogical, that make up the various types of dancer. It presents a gallery of the finest artists, all vividly illustrated, giving attention to many from all over the world and through the ages, but concentrating on those extraordinary dancers like Nureyev and Baryshnikov. Imprint: London, C.A. Watts, 1969
Edition: First
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with VG dustjacket. This is a book written for those who are certain neither of the demise of religion nor of its power to sustain its past roles into the future. Religion, in vast variety, has been part of man's social and personal life for most of recorded time: but some of the forces, intellectual and social, shaping the world of today deny or ignore its relevance for modern man. Is it so certain, however, that they can meet man's needs with no reliance on past tradition and no continuance of a living strand of religion in the lives and thought of at least a minority? 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy in red cloth boards with VG dustjacket which is not price clipped. xxiv + 264 pages. First edition, seventh printing. The author demonstrates how applying the concept of stewardship will radically change all areas of organizational governance and management. In place of the 'managerial class system', he says, we need to reintegrate the managing of work with the doing of work. No one should make a living anymore watching, measuring, or defining what is best for others - everybody manages and everybody does real work. He spells out extensive reforms needed in many areas: day to day management practices, role of staff groups (accounting, legal, personnel, MIS, and so on), budgetary and financial practices, human resource practices, and pay and performance appraisal systems. 13. Broadway - An Encyclopedic Guide to the History, People and Places of Times Square

Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with Fine dustjacket. xviii + 442 pages. Profusely illustrated. Broadway is the centre of American theatre and the neon-lit heart of American popular culture. In a style as lively and entertaining as the Broadway scene itself, Ken Bloom covers the major theatres, playwrights, composers, lyricists, producers and performers who have, over the past century, made Broadway the best-known street name in the world. But he doesn't stop there. Broadway is famous not just for entertainment, but for its people - the entrepreneurs both legitimate and not so, the hangers-on and hookers, the bons vivants and the gangsters, and the reporters and writers who recorded (and perhaps sometimes created) the legends that have made Broadway. A Near Fine unmarked copy (Fine apart from a small marks to fore and lower edges) with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. xiii + 303 pages. 16 illustrations. 2 page genealogical chart. John Christie (1882-1962) was an English landowner and producer. He was the founder of the Glyndebourne Opera House and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera at his home at Glyndebourne, near Lewes in Sussex in 1934. An only child, he was sent to Eton, where he later returned as a member of the Science staff. His 16 years as a schoolmaster were interrupted by two years of active service in the First World War, when he won a Military Cross. After the death of his grandfather his father gave him use of Glyndebourne, an ancient but much renovated country house in the Sussex downs which soon became an absorbing interest to him. In 1930, his father, who had always been mentally unstable, died leaving his Devonshire properties away from the family; this caused a celebrated lawsuit in which John Christie and his mother were successful. A year later John married Audrey Mildmay, the opera singer, with whose help he created the Opera Festival which, in spite of some initial scepticism, has triumphantly succeeded and is now an accepted institution in the pattern of English life. 16. Handbook for the Positive Revolution

Imprint: London, Viking, 1991
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback , With Dust Jacket

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Fine unmarked copy with Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. Printed on yellow paper. With the 'positive revolution' there are no enemies, but there can be just as much energy and direction. The weapons are perception and values - human behaviour has too often been shaped by guilt and negativity - it is time to lift this dark cloud and that is why the yellow of sunshine is the symbolic colour of the positive revolution. The hand is the symbol of the positive revolution - the thumb stands for effectiveness; the index finger points the constructive direction; the middle, and longest finger, represents respect and human values; the third finger stands for self-improvement; the little finger indicates a contribution that may be small but will gradually build. **** NOT EX LIB **** 21. God Is With Us

Imprint: London, Burns and Oates, 1970
Binding: Softback

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Very Good clean, tight and unmarked copy with just a touch of wear to spine head. xii + 199 pages. Boros is here concerned with contemporary restlessness about the existence of God, much of it caused by man's having constructed a God he now finds no use for. It would be better, he suggests, to forget what we have heard about God, even the name of God, and perhaps man's sense of separation from the God who seems dead to him is providential, for it leaves him more free to express his responsibility in terms of God's real presence, through Christ, in humanity - which he does know. Boros consciously attempts to look at Christ as a man and nothing more. **** NOT EX LIB **** R8. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft Cover. Jacket: No Jacket
