AWDRY, The Rev. W.
The Three Railway Engines.
Imprint: Edmund Ward. Leicester. [1946]
Binding:
Hardback
The first book in the "Railway Series" by Rev. Awdry was this title. This is probably the second or third printing. The dust wrapper is present but price clipped, the boards are original green cloth gilt. The only title mentioned in the advert at rear of volume is "Thomas the Tank Engine" which was published in 1946. Slight rubbing to head and tail of spine, small area of rubbing along bottom edge near lower corner. Wrapper sl. soiled, endpapers browned, page 58 has small crease otherwise both wrapper and pages are remarkably crisp, clean and bright. VG+/VG+. A very attractive, early and scarce copy of Rev. Awdry's first book. The book is dated using the use of the term "fat director" which is present on pages 40, 42, 52, 54, 56 and 60. In the 1947 editon and after he was renamed famously "The Fat Controller". He first appears on page 40 as "a fat director" but in later pages he becomes "the fat director".
