BIBLE.
The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues and with the Former Translations diligently Compared and Revised.
Imprint: 1747
Binding:
Hardback
Thomas Baskett, Oxford. 1747. 4to. Full tan calf, raised bands, contrasting label to spine, gilt type. Decorative capital letter to first word of each book. Book of Common Prayer also bound in (incomplete) at rear, plus an index to the Holy Bible, tables of Scripture-Measures, Weights and Coins, Table of kindred and affinity (normally found in the BCP), A Table of Time etc, and a further Book of Psalms, written in metre for singing, unfortunately missing last 17 psalms. Thomas Baskett was the son of the King's Printer, John Baskett, and his name was attached to Bibles published after his father's death in 1742.The Bible itself is in very nice condition, although there is a little damage to the final few pages of the Book of Revelation. The early pages of the Book of Common Prayer appear to have been wrongly bound, and one or two are missing. The rear free endpaper is still attached, but largely loose. Marks suggest that another document may have been glued down to rear endpaper, but it is no longer present. The cover is tight, a little rubbed and bumped, but overall an attractive, unusual volume. This is a heavy item, and would incur added postal charges.
