Two large albums presented to A.C. Brown, who was employed by the Buenos Aries and Ensenada Port Railway. Photograph album is landscape 4to bound in full calf with symetrical pattern in blind; upper board has engraved gilt lettering "A.C. Brown 1889 F.C.B.E." with gilt floral design and double gilt borders. Small split to upper joint; bds. sl. rubbed. Contains 38 photographs, approx. 21cm x 17cm, laid down on card, all edges gilt; two of the photographs are duplicated. Views are predominantly of railway stations, trains and lines eg Berazatecui, Puente Incas, Cacheuta, Uspallata, Punta Rieles, one captioned Tribu en Armas, race courses and five photographs of groups of gauchos engaged in various activities. A most interesting collection of photographs offering a fascinating insight into life in the nineteenth-century Argentinian interior. The presentation album is large 4to, full calf, with A.C. Brown's signature moulded into metal and laid down on upper board. Inner gilt dentelles with deep red silk eps. affected by damp. This vol. has a beautiful ornate hand-inscribed dedication page to A.C.Brown with exquisite calligraphy and illumination incl., within the 3 cap. initials, tiny coloured paintings of trains and a railway signal; at the head of this page are the dates 1889-1894 and at the tail is Buenos Aires 31 December 1893.
