Eckert, Hellmut
EHEANFECHTUNG WEGEN IRRTUMS ÜBER DIE RASSEZUGEHÖRIGKEIT

Imprint: Würzburg: Triltsch, 1938
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Paperback

1st edition. Original wrappers. 8vo. 120 pages, 20 cm. In German. Title translates to “Marriage Nullification Due to Error about Racial Affiliation. ” A university dissertation on intermarriages from the University of Jena. In Nazi Germany, “Marriage defined the Volksgemeinschaft, or ‘community of people, ’ of Germany because it was the basis relationship that connected the small world of the household to the larger German community. Also, marriage made it rightfully possible to produce ‘pure blood’ German children with the genetically correct German parents. Marriage was so vital to the Nazis because it was the true basis of their socio-political perspectives. In effect....In order to define Volksgemeinschaft, the Nazis constructed marriage by associating the relationship with modeled public male and private female roles, and with the assumption of procreating ‘pure blood’ Aryan children. The Nazis used marriage to define their Volksgemeinschaftbecause it enforced the vertical relationship in marriage into the Nazi based society and it would help increase the capacity and population of the Aryan race” (UCL, 2018) .

DOS NAYE LEBN VOL II, NRS 1-12, 1910. [COMPLETE SECOND VOLUME, 12 ISSUES TOTAL]

Imprint: New York : Ferayn "dos Naye Leben, 1910
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardcover

1st edition. Original boards. 8vo. 690, 16 pages. 23 cm. In Yiddish. Title translates to “The New Life. ” A complete second year of this important Yiddish monthly. Zhitlowsky, an immigrant socialist revolutionary, sought to synthesize socialism with nationalism as early as 1883. He demanded for Jews "national equal rights with all peoples" and asserted that only through the Yiddish language could the social and national revival of the Jewish people be effected. He maintained that one could remain identified with the Jewish nationality even if abandoning the Jewish religion. He urged the Jewish masses to participate in the class struggle as a national unit. Alone among the cosmopolitan Jewish socialists he favored national socialism. In 1897 he began publishing philosophical studies in Jewish history and a comprehensive program of action which later appeared in book form as Pisma o starom I novom yevreystvie ("Letters on Old and Modern Judaism, " 1907) . His main thesis was that national consciousness consists mainly of spiritual-cultural determinants and that these national characteristics can be maintained by the Jews in the future in the lands of their dispersion, just as they have survived the lack of territory or unity of language since the end of the second commonwealth. After emancipation of the individual the Jews as a group should be granted national self-government within the framework of the state along with other national minorities. His secularization of the national idea as opposed to those who saw the essence of Judaism in religion, and his optimistic view of the future of Judaism in the Diaspora, were the main underpinnings of his insistence on national cultural autonomy. Zhitlowsky was "in favor of the centrality of Yiddish in the national Jewish experience and labored toward the recognition of that language, and of those who lived out their lives in it, as one of the several cultural linguistic communities of Eastern Europe, and of the Western world as a whole" (Isaac Levitas, et al, in EJ) . DOS NAYE LEBN [VOL. 2, NO. 2 - FEBRUARY, 1910]

Imprint: New York : Ferayn "dos Naye Leben, 1910
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Paperback

1st edition. Original paper wrappers. 8vo. 58 pages with 6 pages of ads. 23 cm. In Yiddish. Title translates to “The New Life. ” Zhitlowsky, an immigrant socialist revolutionary, sought to synthesize socialism with nationalism as early as 1883. Eerdmans, B D.
THE COVENANT AT MOUNT SINAI: VIEWED IN THE LIGHT OF ANTIQUE THOUGHT.

Imprint: Leiden: Burgersdijk & Niermans,, 1939
Binding: Paper Wrappers

8vo. 31 pages. Dutch Protestant Bible scholar. His Alttestamentliche Studien (4 vols. , 1908–12) , a collection of writings on the composition of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and the early history of Israel, are uniform in their complete rejection of the starting points of modern Pentateuchal criticism. According to Eerdman, material found particularly in Genesis belongs to various stages of religious development of which the earliest is polytheistic and the latest monotheistic. He argued for the cultural historicity of the patriarchs and for the advanced state of ritual in the Mosaic period. He maintained that most of the legal codes of Leviticus were Mosaic, thus rejecting the commonly accepted J. Wellhausen-K. H. Graf hypothesis. He was one of the earliest scholars who advanced an exilic date for sections of the book of Daniel. [Zev Garber]. SUBJECT(S) : Covenants - Religious aspects - Judaism. OCLC lists 23 copies worldwide. Efros translated Shelley's poetry and Shakespeare's Hamlet and other works into Hebrew, and some of Bialik’s poetry into English. He also collaborated with Judah Even-Shmuel (Kaufman) and Benjamin N. Silkiner in compiling an English-Hebrew dictionary” (Berenbaum and Skolnik in EJ, 2007). Ex library, hinges repaired, some pages loose, otherwise good condition. (RAB-57-1A)

Tcherikover was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, into a family of maskilim. Emigrating to Palestine in 1925, Tcherikover became one of the first teachers at the Hebrew University, and the first professor of ancient history. A general historian by training, Tcherikover first wrote in the field of Hellenistic history; his Die Hellenistischen Staedtegruendungen von Alexander dem Grossen bis auf die Roemerzeit became the basic work in this field. Later he devoted himself entirely to the study of Jewish history during the Graeco-Roman period and became one of the most distinguished scholars in the field. The other important field of Tcherikover's work on the history of the Diaspora in Egypt was based on his research of papyri. Among the tens of thousands of Greek papyri found in Egypt from the end of the 19th century onward, papyri which mentioned Jews or matters connected with Jews were also discovered. Tcherikover initiated systematic research of the Jewish papyri, publishing many studies and a comprehensive research work, Ha-Yehudim be-Mizrayim ba-Tekufah ha-Helenistit-ha-Romit le-Or ha-Papirologyah (‘The Jews in Egypt in the Hellenistic-Roman Age in the Light of the Papyri”) . Tcherikover's scholarly work is outstanding for construction, clarity of thought, lucidity of presentation, precision of detail, and general historic perception” (Fuks in EJ 2007) .
