CAPELL, Edward
GLOSSARY TO SHAKESPEARE

Imprint: 1775
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback

[CAPELL, Edward]. "GLOSSARY TO SHAKESPEARE." [Part of Notes and Various Readings to Shakespeare... London: Printed for E. & C. Dilly, 1775]. The glossary only, without title-page and notes, etc. Quarto: B-L4. 27 cm. 79,(1) pp. Worn contemporary calf boards, rebacked, marbled endpapers, with remnant of an armorial bookplate on ffep. Text is nicely printed, having wide margins, and is clean. Very good. Capell (1713-81), a Shakesperean commentator, produced in 1768 the first edition of Shakespeare's works to supply an accurate text based upon careful collations of the old copies. Notes and Various Readings to Shakespeare, with notes to nine plays and a glossary, first appeared in 1775 but, due to little success, was recalled by Capell. He decided to publish the entire commentary in three quarto volumes by subscription. The first volume appeared in 1779; but because subscriptions were slow, the third and final volume was published posthumously in 1783., Very Good

CATHER, WILLA
LIFE OF MARY BAKER G. EDDY

Imprint: 1909
Edition: First Edition
Binding: Hardback

[CATHER, Willa]. THE LIFE OF MARY BAKER G. EDDY. AND THE HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE. By Georgine Milmine. Illustrated. New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1909. First edition, first printing. 8vo., blue cloth, stamped in gilt. First printed serially in McClure's magazine, for which Cather edited, reorganized and rewrote much of Milmine's work. The book, however, excludes those passages which can be attributed directly to Cather, though much of it, especially the later chapters, retains her journalistic style. The extent of this involvement, both in the magazine and final book form, still provokes much scholarly controversy. With some spotting to the spine and wear at heel and crown; it is slightly over-opened in one place, and the rear hinge is mended. Still, a very good copy. (Crane AAAI.ai)., Very Good
