The Nude Male: 21st Century Visions

Imprint: New York City, NY, Universe Publishing, 2008
Edition: First Edition

First Edition / First Printing. Fine in No Dust Jacket, As Issued. 260 pages. Retrospective collection of contemporary male nudes. One of the finest anthologies on the subject ever published in our time. The First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a softcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Universe Publishing: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by various contributors. Edited with an Introduction and Notes by David Leddick. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents "The Male Nude: 21st Century Visions". The most interesting and most innovative developments of the male nude genre, as seen through the eyes of today's artists. Who are cognizant of the emotional, not just physical, beauty and appeal of the subject. "Showcases such prominent photographers and illustrators as David Hockney, Sam Taylor-Wood, Clive Barker, Mark Beard, Tom Bianchi, Reed Massengill, Nan Goldin, and Duane Michals, among others, presenting images ranging from the erotic to fantastic, romantic, dangerous, and funny. Features the work of more than 120 established and emerging visual artists, making this collection nothing less than the premiere catalog of the genre. The male form has made strides to reclaim its place in modern society, alongside its female counterpart, as a thing of beauty, admiration, and desire" (Publisher's blurb). The collection is best viewed, appreciated, and enjoyed as a further extension and expansion of "Male Nude Now", the third and final volume in the trilogy that began with "Naked Men" and "Naked Men Too", all three volumes edited by the indefatigable David Leddick. An absolute "must-have" title for erotic art photography collectors. This title is now collectible. This is one of few copies of the First Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. 250 plates. Some of the most brilliant artist/photographers of the male nude of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO "NAKED MEN", "NAKED MEN TOO" AND "MALE NUDE NOW" TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0789317567.

Notes handwritten in ink and pencil on a variety of paper including beige paper, brown paper, and lined paper. Letter handwritten in black ink on beige paper. Original envelope (with red stamp) addressed to Prosser included. Circa 1912-1913. Notes range in size from about 3 1/4" x 5" to 5" x 7 1/2." Most of the notes are 5" x 7 1/2." They include sections on "the world before Abraham," "Atlantis," and the Hebrew language. The letter is from Dr. B. C. Taylor and is addressed to Prosser. The letter's location is the Crozer Seminary. In his letter, Taylor responds to a previous letter by Prosser (not included) and gives his thoughts on what appears to be Prosser's theological research. Taylor references the Hebrew language and advises Prosser to look at a specific verse in the Book of Genesis among other recommendations.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Near Fine. Binding: No Binding
